New EPERIA shopping mall regularly gets involved in Prešov life, and supports many town and commercial activities. As our doors opened in November, for a few days we gave Prešov residents free fresh strawberries – the fruit which has been the city’s symbol for centuries. Baskets of strawberries also greeted personalities of the third-largest Slovak city, which this year celebrates its 770th anniversary.
Stawberries fill Prešov’s streets
The name of this new shopping mall is inspired by Prešov‘s original name - Eperies - which means strawberries. This popular fruit according to famous legend once saved the life of King Bela II. ‚the Blind‘. This attractive shopping project in the Sekčov residential district was inspired by this legend – hence EPERIA.
"We really like the symbolism of the shopping mall’s name. We sought something that really represented Prešov - because we want EPERIA to become a new fashion address and warmly welcomed by residents. That's why we opted for the long-term use of the strawberry motif," says Juraj Marko project manager of EPERIA-developer J&T REAL ESTATE. Throughout the day, hostesses were giving away fresh strawberries to Prešov residents in busy places such as Hlavná and Budovateľská Streets, Sekčov - Sídliska III residential area, as well as the city’s Old Town.
People make the city exceptional
"As well as Prešov residents, with these baskets of strawberries we also wanted to thank those who strongly represent Prešov – by trying to make it a nicer place to live or who need our attention to know that we‘re here for them," adds Juraj. EPERIA gifted baskets of strawberries to the Mayor of Prešov - Andrei Turčanová, and Komajota singer - Martin Husovský, who wrote the city’s anthem Town in Us. The strawberries also brought smiles to elderly residents of ZPS Náruč. EPERIA has also presented the sweet delights to Prešov-resident Milan Závadský for his many years of professional work – 77 years old and still going strong supervising the building of EPERIA. Another strawberry surprise went to Petra Compelova, who has been working for the city police for an incredible 26 years - keeping the city in order and assisting residents.
EPERIA also personally thanked VK Eperia Prešov volleyball captain, Veronika Jakábová, who with her team recently claimed the Women’s Extraleague bronze medal. "I‘m very happy that this season went so well. EPERIA brought us luck, and now we‘re looking forward to a relaxing break. When I received the basket full of strawberries, I enjoyed them on the sofa at home. It’s also nice that other Prešov residents could enjoy the first strawberries of spring," she said.
